Evros: "rescued" a group of 145 illegal immigrants on a Greek island

A group of 145 illegal immigrants were seen on the morning of Thursday June 22 on the island of Marasia in Evros, which belongs to the territory of Greece.

There are many children among illegal immigrants, reports SKAI. Of course, illegal migrants freely moved to the Greek island from Turkey.

A successful “rescue” operation was carried out by the Greek authorities, which means that illegal immigrants will normally and relatively inexpensively enter Greece. At present, the water level in the Evros River is low, and at least until September, Greece will face many such “crossings”.

A few days ago, about 200 illegal migrants who crossed to the Turkish island of Evros tried to cross to the Greek side and were blocked by border guards, after which they were returned to Turkey by the Turkish army, which had previously let them through.

The Greek authorities found that Turkish military personnel on boats approached the island where illegal migrants are located, and through loudspeakers asked them to get on the boats and go back to Turkey.

Minister of National Defense Alkiviadis Stefanis gave a clear order “at all costs not to allow a single person in Turkish territory without legal documents to enter Greek territory”, but does not prevent hundreds of illegal immigrants from regularly arriving in Greece, using a loophole in international law regarding persons, “who are in danger of their lives”.
