Teenagers from Afghanistan were taken hostage by smugglers in Athens

Four 16-year-olds from Afghanistan were taken hostage while being held captive by slave traders in a basement apartment on Files Street in Athens.

According to the information, the slave traders threatened to kill them unless their parents paid 3,000 euros each to free them. The young people reached the Evros River on June 8, illegally crossed the Greek-Turkish border and from there on foot moved to Komotini. There they were found by a smuggler named “PATRIK”. He put the teenagers in a car that took them to Athens, where they were placed in the basement of one of the houses in the ill-fated area of Agios Panteleimonos.

The smugglers took their mobile phones and gave them away so they could contact their families and pay the money. However, one of the minors was able to send a message with the coordinates to his friend in Greece. He notified the National Emergency Response Mechanism of the Ministry of Migration Policy. The organization “Direct Action” and the security department of the metropolitan area of Agios Panteleimonos were alerted.

When police officers arrived at the place where the underground “prison” was located, the minors broke the window and began to call for help, showing where they were. The children’s rights police unit released the juveniles. After they are registered, they will be transferred to a shelter for protection of unaccompanied minors.

This situation is quite common among illegal migrants. Families and clans from Afghanistan and other countries of Asia and Africa who wish to join European civilization enter into a contract with smugglers and give an advance. Then the smugglers transport the future Europeans to the border of Turkey and show them the passages known to them to the territory of Greece. Often, smugglers share with border guards, who (for a fee) either turn a blind eye to illegal immigrants crossing the border, or themselves guide illegal immigrants to their territory.

After crossing the border, illegal immigrants are collected and taken to a hidden place, where they send a message about their successful arrival in Greece. After that, the smugglers receive the remaining amount for the delivery of “clients” to Greece.

In this case, it turned out that the smugglers lost their vigilance, and young, but very smart teenagers “threw” the smugglers. Moreover, the young and early fell under the program for the protection of minors and in the near future will be able to introduce the Greeks to the achievements of Afghan opium and heroin, as their many peers are already doing on the streets of the capital of Greece.
