New Market Pass Program: Payouts Continue

As food prices continue to rise, one of the first issues facing the new government is expected to be the renewal of the Market Pass.

Despite the decline in inflation to 2.8% in May, the data ELSTAT show that the annual price growth rate in the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages was 11.6%, and from April to May, food prices rose by 1.8%.

Significant rises in prices have been recorded in essential items. As noted, during the month the price of rice increased by 5.4%, flour by 8%, olive oil by 4.4%, potatoes by 4.3%, eggs by 4%, fresh fruit by 7.6%, ice cream by 5.4% and soft drinks by 5.3%.

Compared to May 2022, the largest increase is in dairy products and eggs (18%), oils and fats (15.8%), coffee-cocoa-tea (13.2%), meat (11.9%), bread and cereals (11.1%).

Market Pass
Because the payments for Market Pass ends in Julythe new financial staff is expected to consider on the extension of the social program of assistance to the population. It all depends on the availability of the appropriate budget.
