Three deer from the nursery were killed, the female was found with buckshot in her body

A female deer and her cubs were killed in the area of Lake Kerkini. Young shot animals, apparently, were taken away by poachers.

The deer turned out to be too “heavy”, it weighs about 250 kg, so the criminals could not take it with them. The dead animal was discovered by the guardian of the Kerkini National Park, Antonis Iliadis, who immediately informed the Forestry Department of Sidirokastro and the Police Department of C. Poroyon about the incident.

The animals were previously legally imported from abroad and kept on a farm in the village of Akritochori. A few months ago the breeder died and the deer were left unattended. Apparently, they got out of the fence of an abandoned farm and caught the eye of poachers. Anthony Iliadis says:

“Three deer were killed by them, according to autopsy and traces found. Two deer were reported to be small and easily carried, and the female deer found weighed about 200-250 kilograms. It is estimated that 18 deer lived on the farm, with the male deer weighing about 350 kilograms and may currently be at large. The fate of the rest of the deer remains unknown.

At the moment there are two questions: firstly, the safety of citizens on the roads, since these animals, which take long walks, are accustomed to the presence of a person and are not afraid of the passage of vehicles. And secondly, which is very important, these are rare animals. Those that have been rescued so far are along the shores of Lake Kerkini and in a wider area, they must be protected at all costs.

Although hunting has been banned since February, and hunting weapons must be sheathed, this heinous act proves that there are unscrupulous hunters who “accidentally” had a weapon in their car and who could “accidentally” kill harmless animals. Everything is done by mistake…

The investigation to identify the perpetrators is carried out by the Poroyon police station, and the department of forestry of the region is engaged in the search for deer, writes CNN Greece.
