Thessaloniki flooded on Sunday, the streets turned into stormy rivers (video)

On Sunday afternoon, June 11, bad weather cleared up in Thessaloniki, the downpour created tangible problems on the roads.

How informs thes.gr, heavy rain was pouring not only in the center of Thessaloniki, but throughout the region. In the Pefka area, an overflowing stream flooded roads and stopped vehicles. The water blocked the passage to the Filiro bend and it was almost impossible to drive up. At least 30 calls were received by the fire department with a request to pump water from the premises.

According to the police, shortly before 19.00, the downpour also created a problem on the Thessaloniki ring road, where the passage of vehicles was difficult due to the large accumulation of water on the roadway. According to the information, there were problems in Pefka and Filiro, as well as in Stavroupoli and Polichni. It also rained in other parts of Central Macedonia, but according to the police, none of them had serious problems.

Forecasters predict that bad weather will continue today. According to the National Meteorological Service, the areas that will be affected by bad weather today are Macedonia (including Thessaloniki), Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece (including Attica), Evia, central and northeastern Peloponnese.

Experts predict extreme weather events throughout Greece, but especially in the north of the country and in the Thessaloniki region, where up to 5-8 intense floods are expected per year. Experts are talking about tripling the number of extreme events.
