A 37-year-old man was arrested in Athens for "insults against Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the Internet"

On Wednesday afternoon, authorities in the Greek capital arrested a 37-year-old man who “insulted Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the internet.”

According to the police, a criminal case has been opened against the man for incitement to commit crimes, violence or hostility. The authorities said in a statement that it was this man who began spreading the well-known insulting slogan of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, calling on the people to revolt.

According to EL.ASa proper assessment of the information was carried out, on the basis of which signs of the man’s involvement in maintaining a profile on social networks through which he made posts containing public incitement to commit crimes and violence were revealed.

The online investigation revealed abusive messages, as well as a number of messages with relevant content, which were made over the past 6 months, the latest of which was on Tuesday (23/5). Subsequently, the Prosecutor’s Office of Athens appointed a preliminary investigation.

A thorough police investigation and correspondence with ISPs resulted in the finding that the electronic traces matched an Internet connection from the suspect’s home.

As a result of a subsequent investigation at his home, he was identified as an abusive administrator and arrested. At the same time, a mobile phone, a portable data carrier (USB flash drive) and 2 computer hard drives were found and seized. The arrested man with the materials of the case formed against him was taken to the competent body of the prosecutor’s office.

It is noted that the man had not previously come to the attention of the authorities. And the slogan itself is well-known, especially among young people, and could open the way for even more arrests. Will the police intervene in concerts where young people sing ditties to Kyriakos Mitsotakis?

It’s also worth noting that this happened just 24 hours after the ND’s major electoral victory. One can imagine what would happen if Mitsotakis had 180 or more votes in parliament…
