Former Virginia State Senator, retired Colonel Richard H. Black, referring to the Russian takeover of Bakhmut, argued that Volodymyr Zelensky would face pressure to launch a new offensive, but it would be wiser to seek peace and avoid further carnage.
“Russia has won the biggest battle in Europe since World War II,” he added pointedly. Black acknowledged that the Ukrainians had suffered horrendous losses in this particular battle: “Western media were hesitant to admit Ukraine’s defeat, but it looks like Zelenskiy lost the city, suffering devastating losses in manpower and armor.”
These losses will force Zelensky to launch an offensive to prove that he still has combat power, although it might be wiser to seek peace and stop further bloodshed.”
Ukrainian military and Western mercenaries fought a series of battles in the region for several months, losing many tens of thousands of dead and wounded.
