Danish tourists arrested for leaving baby in car

Tourists in Zakynthos left a one-year-old child locked in a rented car to go shopping.

Two Danes are arrested by the Zakynthos police department for endangering a minor. According to ERT, the 34-year-old mother and her 31-year-old partner left the one-year-old child locked in their rented car to go shopping in Tsilivi. Local residents, who saw the baby in the car, called the police, who immediately arrived at the scene and released the child. For preventive purposes, the child was taken to the Zakynthos hospital, where it turned out that he was healthy.

The baby’s mother and her partner have been arrested and are expected to face prosecution. Recall that in Greece this offense is strictly punished by law.

As the Athenian News wrote earlier, just recently there was a shocking incident that ended in tragedy. The father “forgot” a six-month-old baby in the car for about 5 hours. The child died as a result of dehydration and breathing problems.

Accused of manslaughter killing his son, whom he left for many hours in the car in Arta, the heartbroken father wept incessantly in court. He blamed himself and said that it would be better if he died, and not his baby. The man apologized in writing, describing the tragic events of that day:

“The child fell asleep in the child seat in the car. Instead of turning left at the kindergarten, I turned right and drove to work. “Where is our child, I replied that in the nursery. She told me that she was there and she was informed that the child did not come. Then I realized that I did not pick him up from the car. I went outside and got to my car. My child was dead…”.

After admitting his guilt, the father was released on parole, with a ban on leaving the country. His lawyer called the decision correct, stating that he had lost awareness of the child’s existence and that his memory had stopped working. He is charged with negligent homicide.
