Four-legged victims of the war: in Kharkiv, a dog was given a biointegrated prosthesis

A large dog with a paw amputated as a result of shelling was first fitted with a biointegrated prosthesis at the Kharkiv Veterinary Hospital.

According to veterinary orthopedic surgeon Vitaly Kluban, a terrier dog weighing 56 kg was seriously injured in the hind left leg, which had to be amputated. The prosthesis for her was developed by 3D metal printing using “3D metal tech”.

The dog, the vet said, is three years old. The terrier was wounded in 2022 during military operations in Balakliya. The owners were going to take the animal to Poland, where they promised to put a wooden prosthesis. In Ukraine, says Vitaliy, the opportunity to make implants and prostheses for animals appeared before the start of a full-scale invasion. For obvious reasons, the process stopped for a while, says the veterinarian, and says, quotes life.truth:

“At the end of last year, we put a bioprosthesis on a dog in Lvov. This is the first case in Kharkiv. And this is the first prosthesis for a dog weighing more than 30 kg. Nobody did this because they were afraid that the prosthesis might break. While we are monitoring the healing implant in a terrier. The final results of prosthetics will be in 3 weeks. We hope for a speedy recovery of our patient.”

And here is how Monica moves now – the world’s first dog on bionic prostheses installed on all paws:
