Euractiv, a pan-European news website, has obtained a document containing figures that estimate casualties in the all-out war launched by Russia against Ukraine.
The assessments of the European Union given in the document are based on intelligence leaks, messages from Ukraine to countries EUmedia investigations, published US intelligence documents.
According to the estimates of the European Union, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are estimated at 13,000 dead during the hostilities and 35,000 wounded. In accordance with the US estimates indicated in the same document, Kiev lost 17.5 thousand servicemen killed, and in general, the losses range from 124 to 131 thousand people – dead, wounded, missing and others. However, the European Union considers the US data overestimated, writes Euractiv.
To estimate Russian losses, data from two countries were used:
- according to Ukraine’s estimates, the Russian Federation lost 185,000 dead and 555,000 wounded;
- according to US data, the total Russian losses range from 189.5 to 223 thousand, of which 43 thousand were killed.
The military and diplomats warned in a conversation with Euractiv that it is almost impossible to obtain official confirmation of the number of victims on both sides. It should also be noted that the publication does not indicate the date on which the estimates of the losses of Ukraine and Russia in a full-scale war were given.
According to US intelligence documents, 354,000 Russian and Ukrainian military personnel have been killed or wounded since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
