A continuous rise in prices, up to 10 cents a month, occurs in bakeries and the baking industry, both for the so-called cheap (ordinary) and expensive (various varieties) bread.

Today, the price of a loaf (whose weight most often does not exceed 350 g), from a price of 0.90 – 1.10 euros, which was sold during the Easter period, today is 1.20 – 1.30 €. At the same time, margins are fixed for sourdough, rye and whole grain bread, the prices for which are set without restrictions. Consumers complain about the lack of control, which is causing many bakeries, especially chain bakeries, to make bread with lower quality flour.

“The slightest increase in price is very tangible for us, although, at first glance, it does not seem so. Bread is bought daily by families of four. Bread is an essential item. But this is the second increase in a row in six months!” Mr. Christos told dnews.

In addition to the increase in the price of baked goods, it is worth noting that the prices for cold sandwiches (sandwiches), as prices for cheese, ham, vegetables and lettuce rose. An increase of about 10%-20% has been observed in the last few days also in buffets (αναψυκτήρια).

Cheese pies (plain puff pastry, tiropita) cost 1.30 euros, and now their price reaches 3 €. Meat pie – from 1.80 to 2.50 euros. Creamy croissants – from 1.30 euros, and croissants with chocolate from 1.90 euros. A pizza (piece) costs 2 euros, however the price increases depending on the ingredients it contains.

“10 days ago we received invoices from new shipments. All products such as sandwich buns, donuts and bagels, chiapata, pretzels, and puff pastry have risen in price from 10% to 20%. That is, where we used to buy a bun for 0.30 euros, now they take 0.35 euros. This, of course, leads to an increase in the final prices, but, unfortunately, we are not able to resist this. The more expensive we buy products, the more expensive we sell, “says the store owner to Dnews in the center of Athens.
