The number of Canadian tourists in Greece increased by 25% in 2 months of this year

Air Canada flights to Athens have resumed and Greece is gaining greater access to the top 10 US travel market for Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.

With the resumption of Air Canada direct flights to El. Venizelos, the number of Canadian tourists has increased by 25% in the first two months of this year – until recently there was no direct flight from Canada to the Greek capital.

According to the Minister of Tourism of Greece, Vassilis Kikilias, the Canadian market is in the top ten and is one of the most important markets for the airport, city and country. These words were spoken at an official event announcing the resumption of Air Canada routes, with direct flights from Toronto and Montreal to Eleftherios Venizelos.

The Minister noted that in 2022, Canadian visitors to Athens exceeded the pre-pandemic level by 2%, and in the first 2 months of 2023, according to his data, the number of visitors from Canada increased by about a quarter.

Regarding the development of the tourist flow, the Minister of Tourism stated that all indicators for 2023 are positive. Tourist flow is expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels, so for Air Canada, the best time is now for year-round flights to Greece. The first flight arrived in Athens from Toronto on March 27, followed by the first flight from Montreal on March 28.

The current announced schedule refers to routes until November 26, while it is worth noting that from May 2 flights will land at Eleftherios Venizelos daily.

Speaking about the Canadian tourist flow, Vassilis Kikilias stressed that 82% of potential travelers will come to Greece for a holiday of at least 20 days. At the same time, there are a significant number of Greeks permanently residing in Canada who are planning a trip to Greece to meet friends and relatives, writes newsbeast.gr.
