Starts today "Easter basket"

The “Easter basket”, which will run in parallel with the “poor man’s basket” and contain products that are in high demand among consumers, especially during the Easter period, premiered in supermarkets today, Wednesday 5 April.

As announced by the ministry, the products that will be included in the Easter basket from today are lamb, goat, brioche and Easter chocolate eggs.

Until March 15, the “Easter basket” is valid

The Easter basket will operate on the same principle as the “Lent basket” and is designed to satisfy consumer desires for more economical solutions for the Resurrection of Christ and the Easter table.

The Easter basket will be valid until Holy Saturday (15/4).

“Easter Egg Price Battle”

The Passover lamb will once again be the “protagonist” of the holiday table this year, and the Ministry of Development, in consultation with market operators, is making efforts to contain prices.

Increased production costs, as well as shortages in European markets, which have led to increased exports of Greek lambs this year, are expected to push prices to higher levels than last year, according to ERT. It is possible that this year the price of lambs may reach 13-14 euros. The price fight will be between local butchers and supermarkets, while traditionally the Varvakeos market will be the place where shoppers will look for more affordable prices.

Despite the decline in energy prices, food prices are still rising, causing headaches for consumers. “The Easter basket starts on Wednesday, which will include lamb, goat, brioche and chocolate eggs. We have had several negotiations with farmers and supermarkets about the price we can get for lamb and goat meat. This year, prices for them have increased unprecedentedly compared to last year. The goal is to keep the price of lamb at the level of 10 euros,” Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis said in an interview the other day.
