Hurricane with rain and hail hits Thessaloniki (video)

A storm with heavy rain, accompanied by hail, hit Thessaloniki late in the afternoon, from about 16.00 yesterday.

In just a few minutes, the roads turned into rivers; due to the abundance of fallen water, problems arose with traffic on the Ring Road and on the central roads of the city.

Trees fell in the city center, and in Kuntouriota and opposite the courts, water gushed from the streets and entered shops on the ground floors. The roads turned white due to hail.

To the fire service received 80 calls, most of which were asking for water to be pumped out and reporting fallen trees. Emergency services rescued a mother and child from a car on Lagada Street and an elderly woman from a house on Tantalou Street. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

EMY forecasts for today, May 10, increased cloudiness with localized rain and sporadic storms in Macedonia and Thrace. In the morning hours in western and central Macedonia, the weather will be temporarily strong, but will weaken in the evening.
