“Electroshock”: a new increase in electricity prices is coming from May 1

Energy Regulatory Authority (ΡΑΕ) decided to increase the payment for the distribution network, which all households pay on their own accounts.

This one of the regulated feescharged by the Greek Electricity Distribution Network Operator (ΔΕΔΔΗΕ), intended for investment and other expenses of the company.

ΡΑΕ by its decision of March 30, it began to adjust the payment for connection of power and energy. The new prices will come into effect on May 1. If we compare the new and current fees, the cost of the distribution network fee that a household with a single-phase connection to the power grid will pay 8 kVA, will increase by 22%. Family electrified by three-phase power connection 25 kVA, will see that cost of payment for distribution networks will grow by an average of 77%.

However in the total cost of the electricity bill (only competitive and regulated payments) in the first case, the fee is about 2.5%, and in the second case 7.5%.

Until now, domestic low voltage consumers pay a certain amount for the distribution network. This is calculated on the basis of a fixed unit charge, which is currently 0.52 EUR/kVA, as well as an energy unit charge, which is currently 0.02130 EUR/kWh. With the help of a mathematical formula, which, however, requires confirmation from electricity experts, the total amount of fees for the electricity distribution network is obtained.

ΡΑΕ adjusts the above fees based on the decision. The first (fixed fee per unit of capacity) increases up to 4,434 EUR/kVA. This increase is 752.7%. The second charge per unit of energy, on the contrary, is reduced by 33.5% to 0.01415 EUR/kWh.

In accordance with the decision ΡΑΕ, the annual payment for the electrical distribution network for a household with a single-phase connection with a capacity of 8 kVA and an annual consumption of 2592 kWh will be 72.148 euros. At current prices, it pays 59.37 euros. This is an increase of 22%.

A family living in a house with a three-phase connection with a capacity of 25 kVA and an annual electricity consumption of 3,750 kilowatt-hours will pay 173.75 euros for the electricity distribution network. At current rates, she pays 98.45 euros. The increase is 77%. In the overall account, the increase is 7.5%.

The last adjustment of the distribution network fee was made in 2020, when the amount requested by ΔΕΔΔΗΕ was 743.59 million euros.
