The work of public transport on the day of the strike on March 16

As of 16 March, the Federation of Public Sector Trade Unions ADEDY and the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) announced a nationwide strike, in which public transport workers will also take part.

According to unions, the strike is being held to protest the failure to meet safety standards in public transport, as evidenced by the train collision in Tempi. A protest action is planned at Syntagma Square in the center of Athens in 11 am Thursdayfor this reason, passage through Syntagma Square will be blocked from 10:30 am.

The following will take part in the strike:

  • City bus drivers from start of shift to 9:00 and from 21:00 before the end of the shift, announced on Tuesday the union of employees OASA. They will work as usual from 9:00 to 21:00 to help the protesters join the rally. Bus routes operated by KTEL intercity buses will operate normally.

  • Civil aviation controllers: 24 hour strike.
  • Ferries, passenger and merchant ships: 24 hour strike.
  • School and university teachers: 24 hour strike.
  • Panhellenic associations of trade unions ΑΔΕΔΥ & ΓΣΕΕ, and this means that with a high probability all employees of state and municipal services will join the strike.

In a related statement, the unions emphasize that the Tempe train tragedy “plunged the country into mourning and continues to shock everyone, raising a great” wave “of anger and at the same time demanding the imposition of responsibility, acceptance measures By transport securitywhich is a public good.”

“In this situation, the trade union movement must not allow this tragic tragedy to be forgotten! Become the voice of the demands of the people so that once again there is no disorientation with the transfer of responsibility and delays in the administration of justice leading to a cover-up,” the unions emphasize.
