Turkish customs suddenly stopped clearance of sanctioned goods to Russia, transit stopped.

According to Russian edition “Kommersant”, this was an unpleasant surprise for market participants in a hurry looking for alternative ways. According to their information, goods going to the Russian Federation due to parallel imports are not allowed through. Georgy Vlastopulo, CEO of one of the Russian logistics companies, says:

“Even yesterday we started receiving messages from agents that previously agreed flight bookings were being canceled. They said that the reason is that cargo transiting for Turkey is no longer sent to Russia. Last night we started receiving letters that the Turkish customs system blocks the transit clearance of goods of non-Turkish origin. This morning they tried to process it again, but the system really blocks everything.”

Some sources of the publication explain the stoppage of the transit of sanctioned goods with Anthony’s recent visit to Turkey Blinken, US Secretary of State. The publication states that the United Arab Emirates, which have become the center for the supply of electronics to the Russian Federation, are also under pressure.

According to Bloomberg, the Turkish government has ordered a halt to the transit of sanctioned goods through Turkey from March 1. This decision is connected with the expansion of EU sanctions against Russia.

From January to September 2022, trade between Turkey and the Russian Federation doubled, reaching $45 billion. Mevlut Cavusoglu, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained this during negotiations with Anthony Blinken by the increase in the price of natural gas, which Ankara buys from Moscow.

As many media noted earlier, Russia manages to circumvent sanctions EU and G7 to get important semiconductors and other technologies to continue the war in Ukraine. Modern microcircuits and integrated circuits produced in the EU and other allied countries are supplied to Russia through third countries such as Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan.
