Auctions: A father of three with a heart condition complains he’s losing his home

The situation of the father of three children with a sick heart is shocking. The head of the family is at risk of losing the house because he cannot pay off the mortgage.

According to him, his house was put up for auction, and bailiffs will come to his house on Monday to evict him. “If they take away our house, I don’t know what to do… I will leave, I will be evicted, I will live on the street… I have nowhere else to stay,” he said.

As the man says to the channel open, this is his first and only residence, and despite the efforts he made to negotiate with the bank, they did not make any concessions. In 2004, he took out a home loan in the amount of 275 thousand euros, but due to unemployment he could not repay it.

“I did my best. I offered to pay them a month’s installment like ‘normal rent’. They didn’t accept it. I told them I would find a buyer… But at the last minute, on a Sunday afternoon, I was must move out immediately, and on Monday morning they will come to take my house, evict me,” says Giannis.

“The bailiff will come, maybe with the police (…). If they take my keys away from me, I don’t know how to live on… I will stay on the street, I have nowhere else to go,” adds the man, dejected by the current situation.

According to his lawyer Marianna Greki, the objective value of the client’s housing is not much higher than the limits set for each category. “This automatically takes him out of the existing “safety valve”, the loophole through which the house could be saved (protected). He is called to find out what he will do next, where he will place his family of five. He has three children,” explains Ms Greki.

According to the information, the homeowner stopped paying the loan around 2010, when he was fired from his job. However, in 2015, when he found work again, he began making contributions again. “I started paying in the 15th, a year or two. Then I lost my job again. Now I’m back at work. Unfortunately, unemployment hit me,” explains Giannis.
