The woman was the victim of a “love trap”: the couple robbed her of 45,000 euros

A Greek woman, a resident of Germany, appealed to the court of first instance of Rhodes with a claim for compensation for the material damage caused to her. The fraud charge involved her acquaintance (and his accomplice).

The lady demands compensation in the amount of 50,154.65 euros with legal interest, as well as compensation for non-pecuniary damage caused to her (an amount of 20,000 euros).

Chronicle of fraud

A woman, a resident of Germany, where she moved at a young age as an immigrant, throughout her life, as a restaurant manager, she managed to put together a small fortune through hard work. The lady was divorced and raised two children herself. The woman met the criminal in 2015. According to the victim, from then until recently, they maintained a romantic relationship, mostly remotely.

According to the woman’s statement to law enforcement agencies, the specified citizen permanently resided in Rhodes. For this reason, and also because he “with all his heart” loved the island, the enterprising suitor persuaded the lady that she needed to buy a house here so that “his beloved, as well as her children, could use it for recreation, especially in summer.”

The “scoundrel” convinced the lady to buy the house, and the gullible woman said. that she has 45,000 euros. After that, a persistent suitor told her that he had found a property at a good price, but which was a store (not intended for living). The dealer explained that in the event of a purchase, the object would need to be turned into a living space, and the lady gave the go-ahead by initiating actions to purchase real estate on her own behalf (communication with brokers, engineers, lawyers, cadastral survey, etc.).

Initially, on December 14, 2021, the woman transferred 2,000 euros to a friend to cover expenses, and in early March she came to the island to see the property and get to know its owner.

The woman withdrew 45,000 euros from her account to pay for the purchase, but when they came to the notary, she was told that not all documents were ready for the contract.

Thus, the first defendant, i.e. her partner, a notarized power of attorney was issued to purchase the property, as the victim had to leave the island. On the same evening, the victim of the scam handed over 45,000 euros and a debit card with a balance of about 5,000 to his “fan” to pay for any expenses related to the repair of the property.

Later, late in the evening, already at the airport to fly back to Germany, she suddenly felt that “something was wrong here,” and realized that giving a stranger her money in cash was unwise. Therefore, she decided to immediately leave the airport and go to his house to demand back the cash, as well as the card.

Going there, she found the “groom” with his own wife (hiding under a blanket). Obviously, they had a great time together, despite the fact that a fan of a resident of Germany swore and swore to her that they had been apart for many years.

The deceived woman told the couple that she demanded the immediate return of her money and bank card. However, she was rudely pushed out of the house, showered with curses and slammed the door in her face, flatly refusing to return the amount.

The victim had to go to the police. In the end, as it turned out, the defendants conspired among themselves and organized a “trap” for the gullible lady. With the amount received from the fraud, they jointly purchased a used tour bus.
