Gypsy riot: Riots in Aspropyrgo, Thessaloniki, Agrinio

The gypsies continue to riot, demanding that the authorities punish the police who seriously wounded a 16-year-old thief who tried to escape from the patrol and almost rammed a police motorcycle in the process.

The riots that began in Thessaloniki, Athens (Menidi) and Megara continued in the metropolitan suburb of Aspropyrgos, where several large gypsy communities live.

The police are reporting arson near the railway line, and citizens are wondering if the state will put an end to this kind of “game” they are playing, or will they play tolerance?

In fact, because of the smoke, traffic was stopped.

In its announcement, Hellenic Train mentions the following: Due to a fire near the tracks in the Aspropyrgos area, by order of the fire department, commuter train 1327 stopped at A. Liosion station, and train 1326 at Aspropyrgos station. Delays are expected on commuter bus routes.

According to firefighters, the fire was dealt with without any problems. Traffic was also restored on the Athens-Korinth highway, which remained closed due to incidents with gypsies near the city of Megara.

According to the traffic police, traffic on the highway was resumed shortly after 21:00, but it remained closed for about an hour and a half.

At this time, new episodes are unfolding in Chalcedon, when the gypsies set up barricades on the old Athens-Thessaloniki national highway, blocking the road.

From local publics, it became known that a group of about 20 people blocked the road, burning tires and throwing stones at police officers. Currently, the old Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway from Chalcedona to Alexandria is closed, according to grtimes.

It is noted that yesterday in the same place, as in others, there were similar incidents that lasted until early morning.

Commentators note that in the riots, the handwriting of the opposition SYRIZA party, which acted in a similar way in 2011-15, was clearly seen. At the same time, the media controlled by this party fully support the Roma.

Set fire to a bus in Menidi
A city bus in Menidi was set on fire around 10:00 pm by gypsies after protests. The bus, engulfed in flames, is at the intersection of Filis and Justinianos streets. So far, neither police nor firefighters have been able to get close to the point where tensions reign.

Early this morning during a police operation in Menidi, 2 policemen were wounded. 1 of them is hard.

Riots in Thessaloniki, Patras, Agrinio

Meanwhile, Gypsy blockades of the Greek road network continue, and incidents have again occurred in Thessaloniki. According to Tempo24, shortly before 21:00 at night, a group of about 30 people blocked the new national road Patras – Pyrgos, on the height of Vrachneiki.

In Thessaloniki, in the new blockade of the old national road Thessaloniki-Veria, on the height of Chalcedon, the gypsies continued their protest. According to police, a small number of people set up barricades, burning tires in the process.

Previously, tension arose in Agrinio. The gypsies set fire to trash cans, blocked the highway, and threw stones at the police. The incidents involved about 50 people who shouted slogans against the police. The fire department tried to put out the fire.

Around 19:20, the Antirio-Ioannina highway was blocked at the height of the Agios Dimitrios junction. Roma left the barricades around 8 pm.

Like us previously reported, a 16-year-old teenager left the gas station without paying 20 euros for fuel. The police officers who were at the gas station, in violation of instructions, opened fire on the thief’s car, seriously injuring a teenager.

Lifo edition in the article about racism against gypsies published statistics, according to which, Greece ranked third in the so-called romophobia (72% negative opinion about the Gypsies, 25% positive). In the first place was Italy (83% of the negative opinion about the Roma).
