Gypsy riot in Menidi: 2 policemen injured 1 seriously

Riots in the places of compact Roma residence in Greece, the cause of which is said to be the wounding of a 16-year-old thief in Thessaloniki, have turned into real riots. In the Athens district of Menidi, the gypsies fired on the police with firearms, and in Thessaloniki they threw Molotov cocktail bottles.”

From early morning in Aharne (Menidi) a confrontation began between the police special forces and the gypsies, as a result of which two policemen were injured, one of whom is in serious condition. The shooting incident took place in the area of Avlisa, Menidi, when the Athenian group of the anti-terrorist unit ΟΠΚΕ arrived in the area to carry out the operation, as yesterday afternoon the gypsies set up barricades on the roads, burning garbage cans, tires, agricultural equipment and cars.

At some point during the operation, rifle shots were fired from the camp, as a result of which the commander of the Athenian ΟΠΚΕ group was seriously wounded in the face. According to the information, the policeman is the father of two minor children.

Another police officer on his team was injured in the same shooting. Both police officers were evacuated in service vehicles to the 401 military hospital. The state of health of the ΟΠΚΕ commander is critical, as the bullets hit him in the face. The police described the incident as an attempted murder, as the attack was carried out with a direct rifle shot at close range. The bullets reportedly hit two more police officers who were not taken to the hospital as the bullets hit their shields and bulletproof vests.

In total, as a result of incidents, over the past 2 days, 14 policemen were injured.

Riots in Thessaloniki continue

With Molotov cocktails, barricades, arson and a hail of stones at police officers, the riots in western Thessaloniki continue for a second night.

Constant tension was also noted at the building of the Economic Police Sub-directorate of Northern Greece in Menemeni, where from 10 pm and intermittently until early morning there were attacks on police officers, sometimes with improvised Molotov cocktails, and sometimes with stones and various other objects. Next to the police building, barricades were erected from burning garbage cans.

In addition to Athens and Thessaloniki, riots are taking place in Megara, Corinthia and other areas where Roma are densely populated. The gypsies protest against the arbitrariness of the police and defend their rights to theft, believing that for small amounts they should not be detained, much less shot.

Like us previously reported, a 16-year-old teenager left the gas station without paying 20 euros for fuel. The police officers who were at the gas station, in violation of instructions, opened fire on the thief’s car, seriously injuring a teenager.

A similar problem was faced a few years ago in the US state of California. State authorities in 2021 raised criminal prosecution bar up to 950 dollars in practice, the police do not apply punishment if the amount is below 1500 dollars. The result was a wave of thefts and robberies.

At the same time, store employees, including security, are advised not to interfere in what is happening at all. After all, the treatment of possible injuries from skirmishes and the loss of reputation will cost the outlet more than the stolen one.

It seems that the Greek authorities decided to follow the path of the United States, only in the United States, if criminals shoot at the police or threaten the police, they do not stand on ceremony with criminals, even after the BLM story. And in Greece, this is a “normal” phenomenon.
