City clerk narrowly escapes chainsaw-wielding madman

Terrible moments had to go through a worker in the sector “landscaping and economic works” of the municipality of Volos, when she was attacked by an inadequate angry man.

According to ΔΑΣ-ΟΤΑ Magnesia, around 11 am Friday, a 50-year-old woman, mother of two children, was working in Vamvakourgias Square. Suddenly, a man approached her and literally smashed the lawn mower, which was near the woman. In an extremely wild state, the attacker attacked the worker with a chainsaw, intending to harm her. Despite the strong shock, the woman managed to escape from an inadequate and dangerous citizen. She reached the nearest house and began pounding on the door, asking for help.

The incident nearly cost the woman her life. ΔΑΣ-ΟΤΑ’s appeal to the authorities emphasizes that they must take measures for the safety of workers. “Having committed an unacceptable criminal act and on other occasions has harassed residents with his dangerous behavior, causing problems not only in the park, where many young children gather, but also in the general area, where there are also many elderly people. Sometimes the madman also entered the courtyards of residential buildings.

It is imperative and necessary that the municipal authorities take this incident with the seriousness it deserves, request (and also take!) appropriate measures so that we do not mourn the victims later. Our colleague yesterday, fortunately, managed to escape. But she is still in a depressed mental state. This case is further evidence that municipal employees, especially those who work on the front lines (landscapers, cleaners, etc.), are exposed to huge risks to their safety, health and even physical integrity every day. With very few necessary protective measures, they collect all sorts of hazardous materials (syringes, decaying waste, etc.) from all public places daily, risking their lives to keep the city clean. These are the real heroes of everyday life. We need to protect us.”
