Google Cloud announced the launch of the Greek data center

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday that the establishment of Google’s cloud service in Greece could contribute more than 2 billion euros to the country’s GDP by 2030 and create 20,000 “well-paying new jobs.”

Speaking at an event to launch Google’s investment plans in Greece, he said it was the government’s choice to invest in and promote the country’s digital leap to better serve citizens and develop the economy.

He thanked Google “for its trust during all these years of crisis, which has strengthened its presence in our country”, and stressed that Greece’s GDP growth is now well above average, and also spoke about the “explosion of record investment, exports and the most dynamic contraction unemployment”, as well as the return of young scientists to Greece.

Mitsotakis welcomed Google’s decision to set up two centers in Thessaloniki and Patras, and also said that 10,000 unemployed people have improved their skills thanks to the company’s cooperation with the Ministry of Employment.

“This is an ongoing process of reforms in the field of digital transformation not only of large, but also of medium and small enterprises, for example, in the tourism sector, which use digital marketing tools to promote their product,” he said, adding that more than 10 billion euros from Recovery Fund and NSRF will be directed to all productive sectors, from primary to industry and services.

Alphabet Inc Google Cloud has announced the opening of a data center in Greece. According to the same reports, the investment will be unveiled on Thursday by Google Cloud International President Ander Fox-Martin and Google Southeast Europe General Manager Peggy Antonakou in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
