KKE: Mitsotakis’ ridiculous excuses form a dangerous institutional framework

The KKE sharply commented on Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ statement about the surveillance scandal, recalling syncroasia, which the communists have long condemned.

The Communist Party cites “ridiculous excuses about ‘mistakes’ and ‘blunders'” and accuses the Prime Minister of being committed to “shaping a dark and dangerous institutional structure that is steadily undermining the rights and freedoms of the Greek people.”

KKE Statement:

“Mr. Mitsotakis is trying, behind ridiculous excuses about ‘mistakes’ and ‘blunders’, to hide the core aspect of the surveillance scandal, which is his absolute commitment to building a dark and dangerous institutional structure that is steadily undermining the rights and freedoms of the Greek people.

This institutional structure not only does not shed “much light”, but it is precisely this structure that leads to absolute “darkness” in the activities of various centers, mechanisms and services, official and unofficial, domestic and foreign. It is this structure, using the concept of “national security” as a “rubber band”, that legalizes and facilitates the practice of interception, which leads to a rapid increase in the number of prosecutions for the abolition of communication secrecy. It is these frameworks that the KKE has condemned and voted against for many years, unlike all other parties.

Thus, in addition to the need to clarify the case of surveillance of Nikos Androulakis, as well as the case of “syncroasis” at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the KKE – as far as possible within the framework of the envisaged parliamentary procedures – there is an even greater need, namely the abolition of all this legislation, directives EU and intergovernmental agreements that led to the current “quagmire”.

Of course, neither the “New Democracy” government with its proposals of “guarantees”, “filters” and “best European practices”, nor any of the parties that helped shape the current regime, can guarantee this. People themselves, by their actions and political choices, must defend their rights and freedoms against the “legality” of repression, authoritarianism, surveillance, against the dictatorship of capital itself.”
