In Japan, a record price of 4,200 euros for a box of rare cherries is set – 280 euros for 1 berry.
A box of quality and therefore very expensive cherries from Aomori Prefecture in Japan sold for a record price in the first auction of the season.
Junoheart cherries sold at the Hatsinohe market for 600,000 yen (4,200 euros). And since each box contains 15 berries called Aomori Heartbeat, this means that each cherry costs 280 euros! As noted, this amount is much higher than the last record of 450,000 yen, recorded last year.
The Aomori Regional Government introduced this new cherry variety in 2019. The biggest bidder was Nagatsuka Seika, a fruit and vegetable wholesaler based in Tsimba Prefecture, which also won the auction last year.
“This variety of cherries cannot be found anywhere else,” said Kyoko Nagatsuka, company president. “Many people are surprised by their size and sweetness. Despite the fact that few people managed to taste them, I would like to recommend this variety for distribution everywhere.
