“We will not allow anyone to enter Greece illegally,” Citizens Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos said on Tuesday following a recent massive attempt by illegal migrants to enter the country across maritime and land borders.
In an interview with ANT1 TV channel, Theodorikakos blamed Turkey for this and once again accused her of trying to use “illegal migrants”. Regarding land borders, where the Evros River is more accessible in late spring and summer months, the minister said that “all these months there is pressure.”
He warned that “everyone inside and outside the borders should know that the Greek police and military are protecting the integrity of the country. We will not allow anyone to enter Greece illegally. Neither on Evros, nor on our islands, and let everyone be aware of this … The country, the prime minister and the government as a whole, while respecting international law, defend our national interests very stably.”
Just yesterday, the Greek Coast Guard prevented the entry 9 boats, incl. 5 sailboats, with 590 illegals on boardin the territorial waters of Greece, between the islands of Chios and Samos.
On Tuesday morning, four more inflatable boats with 140 migrants on board reportedly failed to enter the territorial waters of Greece and reach Lesvos, Chios and Samos.
