The Municipality of Drama, through international cooperation, thanks to the European program, intends to “emphasize the benefits of the water element in the Drama region.” Friendly ties will be established with the Bulgarian provinces of Blagoevgrad and Smolyan.
The Municipality of Drama is implementing the CB Water Geopark project, which is co-financed by the INTERREG VA Greece-Bulgaria Cooperation Program 2014-2020. The project concerns the creation of a transboundary geopark to promote the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the water element in the Drama region, writes in.gr.
The Thracian University of Democritus, as a co-sponsor of the partnership project, has launched activities on environmental education and mobile recreation in the Geopark, which will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 11:00. The program includes canoeing down the river, archery (Νέστο Ποταμό, ύψος Γέφυρας Παπάδων) and a bike ride from Sidironero towards Paranesti.
The overall goal of the project is to identify, study, describe, preserve and promote areas of special interest for the development of tourism.
Drama Mayor Christodoulos Mamsakos said: “The main goal of the project is to promote, improve and preserve the natural and geographical features of the area in close connection with cultural heritage, culture and the development of sustainable tourism. This project highlights the tourism development potential of Drama and the region as a whole. We have a rare natural beauty, we invite you to visit.”
