The daughters of the Russian president were included in the US sanctions list

For the first time, the United States imposed sanctions against members of the family of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Two of his adult daughters were on the sanctions list.

A message appeared on the website of the White House stating that full blocking sanctions are being introduced against the “adult children” of the President of Russia. According to air force, according to official data, Putin has two adult daughters. In addition to them, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, head of the presidential administration Anton Vaino and other high-ranking officials were sanctioned, the US Treasury Department reports. The daughter and wife of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are also included in the list.

This impressive list includes Maria Vladimirovna Vorontsova and Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova, whom the US Treasury Department calls the daughters of Vladimir Putin. The message specifies:

Vorontsova runs state-funded programs that have received billions of dollars from the Kremlin for genetic research and are personally overseen by Putin. Tikhonova is the head of a high-tech company whose work helps the Russian government and the defense industry.

Putin’s two daughters are from his marriage to Lyudmila Putina, from whom he announced a divorce in 2013. His last photo with children was published in 2002 – the Russian president protects his personal life and does not like to talk about his family. Bloomberg notes that the imposition of sanctions against Putin’s daughters is more of a symbolic move designed to attract the attention of the president, since it is not known whether they have assets outside of Russia.

The New Times reported that Maria Vorontsova, the eldest daughter of the President of Russia, is a graduate of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University and is pursuing a career in endocrinology. She is a candidate of medical sciences. In 2017 she defended her dissertation on the topic “Treatment of children with pituitary dwarfism with growth hormone preparations: medical and economic aspects”. Maria Vorontsova is a co-owner of Nomeko, which is involved in the implementation of the largest private investment project in Russian healthcare. An acquaintance of the Putin family confirmed to the BBC that this is the eldest daughter of the Russian president.

Putin’s youngest daughter, according to information from 2015 by Reuters and Bloomberg, is the director of the National Intellectual Development Foundation, this is Katerina Tikhonova.
