A Russian businessman who has been living and working in Greece since 2012 is seeking an injunction from the Supreme Administrative Court of Greece to overturn a ministerial order suspending the renewal or issuance of new residence permits to Russian citizens because of the war in Ukraine.
The couple lives in Thessaly, where the man rents cars and sells and manages agricultural property. The couple own their own home.
In their application, they indicate that their residence permit expires next month and that the local office for foreigners refuses to accept an application for renewal.
Department of Immigration announcement: “The suspension applies to pending applications as well as new requests.”according to the publication iefimerida.gr.
At the same time, according to the relevant message of the Ministry, applications for issuing a residence permit of the category “businessmen, entrepreneurs” (“στελέχη επιχειρήσεων”) for citizens of the Russian Federation will not be considered until further notice“. It was especially noted that Greece is waiting for relevant decisions from the European Union.
Recall that this situation has developed in view of Russia’s “special operation” in Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions against Russia.
