Schools and kindergartens closed in Northern Greece due to frost and snow

Due to the heavy snowfall that hit many areas of Yanina Prefecture on the night of March 8-9, schools and kindergartens were closed even in the city.

Cyclone “Philippos”, which brought cold and snow to Greece, forced the inhabitants of the country to get warm clothes hidden there on the eve of spring from the closets.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions and snowfall, all schools in the municipality of Ioannina – kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and lyceums – will be closed today. Snowplows, spreading salt on the pavement, drove through the country roads at night (especially the mountain road network) to keep them open. To move the transport, you need special equipment – snow chains.

Due to the snowfall, which does not stop in Metsovo and Greven, the movement of heavy vehicles is temporarily prohibited. The police suspended traffic at the toll point Drosochori on Egnatia Odos, reports iefimerida.gr.

Recall that yesterday the National Meteorological Agency EMY issued an emergency bulletin on dangerous weather phenomena, and the Secretary General of Civil Protection gave recommendations to citizens.
