Protests against the war in Ukraine took place yesterday in Russia

Thousands of Russians went to protests in Russian cities, more than 3,500 people were detained, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The human rights project OVD-Info reports that there are at least 1,000 more detained participants in anti-war actions. The central squares of the cities, where the demonstrators flocked, were blocked, and law enforcement officers, using force, took the protesters to paddy wagons.

A new article on “discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces” promises participants in such actions an administrative fine of up to 50,000 rubles. But this is only for the first time – a repeated violation of the law threatens to increase it to 300 thousand rubles. The alternative is imprisonment for 3 years. However, in more than fifty Russian cities, demonstrators took an active part in the action, taking to the streets with posters “No to war.”

Against the backdrop of anti-war demonstrations in Russia, a motor rally took place in support of the “military special operation” in Ukraine. Columns of cars with flags and the slogan “We do not abandon our own” on the windows, to the sound of the Russian anthem, drove through the streets of cities. On this day, songs of the war years sounded and flowers were laid at the eternal fire.
