The cleric of the Greek Church is convinced that the Phanar’s actions in Ukraine consolidated the schism.
EOC Protopresbyter Konstantin Mega recalled that even Filaret abandoned the structure sanctioned by the Phanar, creating a new schismatic organization, Romfea.gr writes. He recalled the words of Patriarch Bartholomew that “with the restoration of his jurisdiction over this territory, schisms were eliminated and favorable ground was created for the formation of a canonical Church.” But Father Konstantin, as he writes life expectancynotes:
“In fact, the schisms did not stop, on the contrary, even Filaret abandoned the structure now sanctioned by Constantinople and formed a new schismatic group. The actions of the ecumenical patriarch increased tension in Ukraine, legislated the schism, and subjected the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to state pressure.”
