They stole a copper cable by turning off the lights in the orphanage

Copper wires were stolen by unidentified persons on Saturday night from the building of the organization for the protection of children and youth, located on Apokoronu Street in Chania.

Their actions led to a power outage at the shelter, which is said to be home to 22 children.

According to zarpanews.gr, at about 11:00 pm on Saturday night, the electricity was suddenly cut off. When the staff went to check the electrical installation, they saw that the door to the transformer had been broken open. The management of the orphanage immediately notified the police of the incident, but the criminals had already fled.

The electrical installation of the orphanage is located on a separate territory, which made it easier for thieves to penetrate it. The “craftsmen” were not only not embarrassed that they were committing a criminal offense by robbing an institution where children with problems are accommodated, but they also tried to do so when the transformer was working, risking an electric shock.

The shelter’s power supply system was restored on Sunday, following actions taken by the administration. The police are engaged in identifying the thieves in order to bring them to justice.
