Holy Mount Athos is “boiling” from the coronavirus, half of the monks have a certificate of illness. At the same time, only 25% are vaccinated.
A dire situation unfolds on Mount Athos, where many cases of covid have been identified. The first complaints came earlier and related to an incredible practice, a trick of how to “get” a negative rapid test for covid: thoroughly rinse your nose with an antiseptic beforehand.
Now the number of active cases of the disease in the Athos state has reached 30. According to the head of Athos, Athanasius Martinos, out of 1800 monks, only 450 were vaccinated.
As he noted, all pilgrims are checked at the entrances to the monastery state, and many of them test positive for the virus. The situation on Athos became the reason that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew decided to postpone his visit to Athos.
With this decision, he wants to send a signal in all directions about the need for vaccination and respect for compliance with protective measures as the only safe way to overcome the pandemic.
