"smart ass" decided to build a house from material collected at an archaeological site

In the hands of the authorities is a 56-year-old man accused of looting antiquities. A citizen stole stones from an archaeological site in order to build a home for himself.

Surprising but true. As it turned out, the man “neither in sleep nor in spirit,” as they say, did not know that he was taking stones to build his house … at an archaeological site protected by the state. Therefore, he is now accused of large-scale “plundering” of cultural heritage sites. This is not a tiny pebble (splinter) from the excavation to take out …

An incredible incident took place in Crete, the local newspaper cretapost reported. A man was building his house in the Palekastro Sitia area, but at some point … he ran out of materials.

Instead of purchasing the necessary raw materials from the building materials store, he decided to go to the archaeological site near his house and collect stones there in order to continue building the house. However, the actions of the man were noticed by the police, who did not hesitate to arrest him.

Thus, the man was brought to trial on charges of stealing antiquities.
