The intervention of the Serres prosecutor’s office was provoked by the actions of the head of a large family in Alistrati, who refuses to send his children to school due to measures to combat the coronavirus.

According to the ERT Serres channel, the prosecutor ordered the social authorities to establish the conditions in which children live, and then make the appropriate decision.

An incredible case with serious consequences, which, according to teachers, will negatively affect the normal development of four underage children, provoked a strong reaction from the local community.

The father decided to ban his 4 out of 6 children from school because he denies the coronavirus and does not want to take action. Four brothers, two primary school students and two high school students in Alistrati, Serres, have not yet attended school since the beginning of the school year because their father does not allow them to wear a mask and take self-tests.

The head of the secondary education structure of Serres prefecture, Stelios Rizos, told reporters that the school director informed the parents that the children were unjustifiably absent from the class from the beginning of the school year until today, but did not receive a response from them.

It is now expected that the district education system, represented by the school principal, will inform the competent prosecutor to intervene, as all four students must return to school immediately or they may “miss the school year” due to long absences.

For his part, the 37-year-old father insists on his own. He even blames school staff and teachers for not allowing his children to attend school without masks and tests (as required by law).
