Vaccination of children 12-15 years old will begin soon

Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias issued a new call for vaccinations for both young people and citizens over 55 years old, noting that the platform will open for children 12-15 years old in the coming days.

In particular, for the age group 12-15 years old, he noted that the vaccine was approved, and in the very near future there will be an announcement about the start of the procedure. When asked if this will happen in August, he replied: “Of course.” The specialist also noted that about 30 thousand adolescents aged 15-17 have already signed up for vaccinations.

In an interview with SKAI TV channel, the Minister of Health said that August 15 this year will be special. This is the traditional feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, during which families are reunited and young people come into contact with the elderly. The health minister stressed that everyone must be vaccinated to be safe.

Speaking about young people, the expert noted that it would be ideal for everyone to get a full vaccination before going on vacation. As he stressed, if this is not possible, those wishing to do at least the first dose of the vaccine.

“Delta mutation is dominant”
Mr Kikilias noted, however, that the Delta mutation is prevalent at over 75% -80% throughout Greece and over 90% in some islands and tourist destinations. “This is an aggressive mutation that has dangerous health consequences, especially for citizens belonging to vulnerable groups,” he added, warning that “if a citizen is not vaccinated and has become infected, especially the Delta mutation, then he is in great danger.”
