“Good news” promised by Erdogan

Ahead of his visit to Cyprus on Monday, the Turkish President announced “Good news”, which he promised to voice “at the meeting”. Everything turned out to be trite – Erdogan again made a provocative statement about two states in Cyprus.

At the same time, he said that “the international community will accept this sooner or later.” Arriving illegally in the occupied territories, the President of Turkey said, quoted by sigmalive.com:

“Today is a very, very important and significant day. Today we reiterate to the whole world about our eternal brotherhood, which draws its strength from the blood of our heroes, between Turkey and the TRNC, whether they like it or not. This question is a big deal. This is a matter of a great nation, its history, great national consciousness, a great struggle against the heroic epic written in 1974. Those who thought that our Cypriot brothers would be easy money were defeated in the epic struggle waged by Turkish soldiers. Those who believe they can exterminate the Turkish Cypriots by relying on the forces they rely on are wrong. ”

Attending the military parade in honor of the black anniversary of Attila, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the importance of this day for the Turkish Cypriots: they “found freedom” by being “chained.” He accused the Greek Cypriots of being “divorced from reality”, blocking the solution for years, taking “maximalist positions”, “poorly educated” and not intending to share anything with the Turkish Cypriots:

They have the same intentions as in the past. I attended Burgenstock and the Annan Plan. We had conversations. They made promises that they did not keep. They called for a referendum and said NO, while in the north they said YES.

According to the Turkish President, there are two different peoples living in Cyprus – with different languages, culture and religion. And any decision must be based on existing reality:

“We are for the solution of two equal sovereign states. Because we have spent 40-50 years on their words and have not been able to achieve any results. Now this era is over, it is closed. Henceforth, the decision of two sovereign, equal states. We do not accept a minority story. There is no such question. “

Regarding the Eastern Mediterranean, Erdogan announced Ankara’s intention to defend the rights of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots:

Those who roll their eyes build tension. I leave the decision on who carried out the unilateral actions and who heightened tensions in the minds of the international community. We have made a proposal to convene an Eastern Mediterranean Conference with all interested States, and this proposal is still under consideration.

Leaving Cyprus, Erdogan said at the airport:

We have reached today by paying the price. Despite betrayals, etc. We will not lose another 50 years. The Turk keeps his word, but the Greek does not. It is no longer possible to believe them and lose another 50 years. As much as this atmosphere of brotherhood worries some in America, we will firmly tread this path.

Turkey occupied Northern Cyprus in 1974 with military force. Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades condemned Erdogan’s visit as “an unprecedented provocation.” According to international law, the territory belongs to the European Union.
