Paris hotel “George V”, which is positioned as “the best hotel in the world”, was robbed, according to the French edition of Le Figaro.
The prestige of the hotel “George V”, located in the French capital in the Champs Elysees region, has been repeatedly recognized by various publications. The incident was reported by Le Parisien and Le Figaro on Thursday, at about 21.30, citing sources close to his investigation.
Two armed men in balaclavas rushed into the hotel building, smashed shop windows and stole jewelry of famous brands. The alleged amount of the stolen is estimated at 100 thousand euros. There were no victims during the robbery.
Le Parisien, citing sources, claims, however, that one person took part directly in the robbery itself. Entering the hotel, he pointed a pistol at two employees in the lobby. Then he opened the windows with a hatchet, took out the jewels and put them in his pockets. On the street, an accomplice on a scooter was waiting for him, and the impudent robbers fled the scene on it.
George V is owned by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts (Canada). In 2014, it was recognized by Conde Nast Traveler as “The Best Hotel in the World for the Services Provided.” For many years it has been voted the best in its category by The Gallivanters Guide.
