Today at 0617 hours in Crete, there was a powerful seismic shock, the magnitude of which was 5.8 points on the Richter scale (according to other estimates, 6.5 points).
Strong aftershocks followed.
The epicenter of the earthquake, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, was located 23 km northwest of the village of Arves. The source depth is estimated at 10 km.
Three hours later, at 9:37 am, in the same area, there was another strong shock, with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. Its focal depth is also estimated at 10 km.
