Police handcuffed a 32-year-old male owner of a fighting pit bull dog in the Chalcedon area of Thessaloniki on Saturday afternoon.
The man went out for a walk with his dog, which suddenly attacked an 83-year-old man taking a walk. She grabbed the man’s hand, injuring him. The victim was taken to hospital, where he received first aid. The owner of the dog was arrested. In addition, he was sentenced to an administrative fine of 1,000 euros. The keeping of fighting dogs in Greece is limited by regulations, however, pet attacks on people are quite common.
As previously reported by “Russian Athens”, on September 22, a pit bull bit a 6-year-old child in the stomach. According to the publication stonisi.gr, the dog escaped from the owner and attacked the baby. The scenes that followed were frightening: the owner tried to open the mouth of the dog that bit the child, the mother was shocked, and passers-by watched in horror.
When the child was finally freed from the pit bull’s jaws, his mother took him to a nearby store and called an ambulance. The child was admitted to the hospital with (thankfully) superficial injuries.
The owner of the dog, taking advantage of the commotion, went into hiding to avoid arrest. The child’s mother went to the district police station. A case has been initiated against the owner of a fighting dog.
Since the incident took place near the bank, the events were recorded by a video surveillance camera. According to available information, the identity of the owner of the pit bull has been identified. This is a 24-year-old young man who will be arrested and fined.
