An important witness in the case of former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was killed when a Cessna 172 plane crashed near the Greek island of Samos.
The plane that took off from Haifa was already landing, but crashed into the Aegean Sea. On board were a high-ranking official of the Israeli Ministry of Communications (former) Chaim Geron and his wife. The bodies of the deceased spouses were raised to the surface by divers.
Geron was one of the witnesses in the case of former Prime Minister Netanyahu, whom the Israeli prosecutor’s office planned to interrogate in connection with the trial. The ex-prime minister is accused of corruption.
The Greek police are investigating the circumstances of the plane crash.
