Thessaloniki flooded with fake 2 euros

The criminal group of counterfeiters was liquidated by the Directorate of the Economic Police of Northern Greece. The arrested were found coins worth 2 euros of dubious authenticity.

In this case, six foreigners were detained, who are accused of “organizing criminal activity”, as well as “selling counterfeit coins and other means of payment.” The criminal organization introduced coins into circulation through five wholesale and retail stores of its own, located in the center of Thessaloniki.

During the searches, which took place on Monday 13 September 2021, in the house, 5 shops, 2 warehouses and 2 cars, as well as with the arrested persons, the amount of 202,825 euros and 1,524 coins of 2 euros were found and seized.

The confiscated coins turned out to be counterfeit after checking on a special coin-acceptance machine of the Bank of Greece and will be sent to the Office of Forensic Investigation for laboratory examination.

In addition, a criminal case was opened against the two arrested members of the criminal organization, since the investigation showed that they hired foreign workers in the store they owned, who did not have documents confirming their legal stay in our country.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
