Where 121 cases of Delta strain were recorded

The incidence of coronavirus in the country is increasing, while there is an increase in the number of cases of the Delta mutation.

Yesterday, 8 July, 2,108 new cases of coronavirus were announced. At the same time, Vana Papaevangelu, a professor of childhood infectious diseases and a member of the expert committee, noted during a briefing on the course of the pandemic in the country that the bulk of new cases of infection are registered at the age of 15 years, and 75% of all cases are under 34 years old.

Ms Papaevangelu also mentioned the Delta mutation, which is much more infectious than the original coronavirus strain and is beginning to “conquer territory.” The expert said that by July 6, 121 cases of this mutation were registered, mainly in persons under the age of 40.

Providing additional data, Ms. Papaevangelu stated that the majority of cases (84%) are from our fellow citizens. About 14% of cases were vaccinated with at least one dose, and 7% received two doses of the vaccine. Most patients had mild symptomatic picture the course of the disease, while 13% of cases with the Delta mutation required treatment.

Ms Papaevangelu stressed that none of those who required treatment were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. They had a course of the disease of moderate severity.

Of the 121 Delta mutation cases in the country, 67 are new. According to the TV channel SKAI, they were recorded in the following regions of the country:

In Heraklion, Crete – 28 (total 58). In Rethymno – 3. In Attica, 31 infected (a total of 39 were found). At Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, at the border of entry into the country, 3 new cases (4 in total). In the region of Argolis, in Larissa and in Halkidiki: 1 case each among young people. In Thessaloniki – 5 infected. In Magnesia – 4. On the island of Paros 2 people.
