Taxi drivers throughout Greece have announced a 24-hour strike for today, Thursday 23 March, in connection with the national tragedy, the deadly train collision in Tempi.
Taxi drivers association ΣΑΤΑ reports that at 11:00 am there will be a rally on Kavala Avenue, and then a procession to the Ministry of Transport. The strike will begin at 06:00 am Thursday and end at 06:00 am Friday. The Association’s announcement states, quotes newsbeast.gr:
“Colleagues, owners and drivers! We are all in this fight together. No one should be left out of this battle. We rage daily at the greed for more profit from companies that illegally provide urban transportation services and steal our transportation work. The government is indifferent to the main problems of the industry and brazenly ignores our demands.On Thursday, March 23, 2023, Athens taxis will remind the Ministry of Transport:
- what it has NOT done for taxis;
- what it has done to hire drivers;
- what it has NOT done to prevent taxi driver pay cuts.
Meeting at 10:00 on Kavalas Avenue and the movement of those gathered to the Ministry of Transport.
