John Kirby: Relations between Russia and Iran have turned into a full-fledged defense partnership

Military cooperation between Russia and Iran is becoming a global threat, said John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council.

How informs The Russian Air Force Service, the countries, according to the White House, are considering the possibility of joint production of combat drones. According to John Kirby, there is unprecedented mutual military support between Moscow and Tehran.

US intelligence reported in August that Iran began supplying the Russian Federation with kamikaze drones to hit targets in Ukraine. And although both sides initially denied this, attacks on Ukrainian territories and facilities by Iranian Shahed-31 and Shahed-36 UAVs soon followed.

However, some experts and politicians, for example, in Israel, believe that Russian-Iranian military cooperation began much earlier. Most of them are convinced that Iran is developing its nuclear program with the help of Russian technologies and specialists.

However, now we are talking about the joint production of kamikaze drones. John Kirby believes that such actions will cause significant damage not only to Ukraine, but also to Iran’s neighbors in the region, and to the entire international community. In exchange for Shahedas, Russia is ready to provide Iran with advanced military components, including helicopters and air defense systems, Kirby said. He notes: “Russia seeks to cooperate with Iran in areas such as weapons development and training [его использованию]. Iran has become Russia’s main military patron.”

The US position is also supported by James Cleverley, British Foreign Secretary, saying that Iran has become one of Russia’s main military partners, and the rapprochement of these countries threatens global security. He recalls that Russia has already received hundreds of drones: “In return, Russia is offering the Iranian regime military-technical support, which will increase the risk that Tehran poses to our partners in the Middle East and all international security.”

It became known the day before writes BB.LV that the US is imposing additional sanctions on a number of Russians involved in the deal with Iran. Australia announced new sanctions on Saturday. They concern 22 Iranian citizens, one Iranian enterprise and two organizations associated with military contracts with Russia and the suppression of anti-government protests. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said: “The delivery of drones to Russia shows Iran’s role in destabilizing global security. This sanctions list demonstrates that those who provide material support to Russia will face consequences.”
