At last count, at least 155 people were injured in a train collision at the Montcada y Reixac station in the Barcelona region of Spain.
Most of the passengers received minor injuries, and three had to be taken to the hospital. The collision occurred at 7:50 am Spanish time on Wednesday morning, 7/12/22 for reasons that are still not clear. It was reported that the trains were removed from the scene in less than half an hour, no one was left in the cars.
According to Spanish media reports, a train bound for Barcelona crashed into the back of a train also bound for the Catalan capital at the station.
A passenger and an eyewitness reported: “We heard a roar. The stationed train drove two meters and stopped. Many people fell from the blow, the car was overcrowded.”
The railroad operator Renfe announced that an hour and a half after the accident, traffic was restored on the only available route between Montcada Bifurcation and Terraza.
