The municipal authorities of Piraeus organized a large-scale action to promote the area called “Go down the subway and go to Piraeus”.

From mid-October, shortly after the start of the commissioning of the new stations Municipal Theatre, Piraeus and Maniatika, and for two months, in cooperation with STASY SA, on the platforms and tracks of the 3rd metro line, comparative advantages The city of Piraeus and its attractions will be displayed with targeted advertising messages in order to attract the attention of more visitors.

The campaign “Metro to Piraeus” (“Πάρε το μετρό για Πειραιά”) will be shown simultaneously in print media, websites and social networks.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Piraeus and the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce on Saturday 15 October, at the first Saturday of the subway, and from 10:30 to 14:30 there will be various activities for everyone old and young. The central square of the city invites residents and visitors to take a tour of the mall, take part in a big celebration with many surprises, the purpose of which is to stimulate commerce.

Activities will include workshops for children and activities for children in Coray Square, refreshments, a concert with performances by animators and artists at the main exit of the Municipal Theater metro station, and the brass band of the Municipality of Piraeus will perform their favorite tunes, raising the mood of the shopping center guests .

The campaign “Metro to Piraeus” (“Πάρε το μετρό για Πειραιά”) is an internal development of the Office of Public Relations, Tourism and European Programs of the Municipality of Piraeus.

As Athens News previously wrote, three new metro stations have opened in Piraeus: Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theatre. According to the forecasts of responsible persons, the operation of the line will increase the total passenger flow in the metro network to 132,000 citizens per day.

The total travel time by metro with the delivery of the project from the port to the airport is estimated at only 55 minutes. It is expected to reduce car traffic by 23,000 vehicles per day, as well as reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 120 tons per day.

Piraeus will be modernized in terms of transport in general: only at the Piraeus station it is planned to create especially important transport hubfunctionally combining two metro lines (lines 1 and 3), port, commuter rail and tram (extension to Piraeus of 5.4 km of the line with 12 stations), which facilitates transfer to any type of transport (communication between its different types).

In addition, the connection that will arise between the port of Piraeus and the airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” via metro line 3, will provide special development benefits both to the wider area of ​​Athens and Piraeus and to the national economy.
