Pandemic Chronicles: May 11, 3197 new cases, 732 intubated, 52 deaths

Despite the arrival of summer weather and the general relaxation of quarantine measures, the number of infected, intubated and deaths from coronavirus in Greece is still high.

Today, Tuesday 11 May, the National Public Health Agency announced 3,197 new cases of Covid-19 in Greece. At the same time, according to EODY, 732 patients were intubated in the intensive care unit and 52 new deaths were registered.

As a reminder, most of the cases reported by EODY in one day were announced on March 30, 2021, when 4,340 cases were recorded in 24 hours. The maximum number of deaths due to the virus per day was recorded on Saturday 28 November, when 121 patients died.

On Monday, May 10, 1904 new cases of Covid-19 and 60 deaths of patients due to this disease were recorded, while the number of intubated patients was 732. 28,127 tests were performed, and a positive result reached 6.77%.

EODY Report in detail: Situation in intensive care units

Of the 732 intubated patients, 61.7% are men, with an average age of 67 years. 83.3% have an underlying disease and / or are 70 years of age or older. Since the start of the pandemic, 2,216 patients have been discharged from intensive care units. Hospital admissions of new Covid-19 patients on Monday – 294 (daily change -23.24%). The average seven-day admission is 364 patients.

Test and positive results

Over the past 24 hours, 85,590 tests (26,117 PCR and 59,473 rapid) were performed with a positive result of 3.73%. The seven-day average is 53,042 spot checks.

From January 1, 2020 to date, laboratories that conduct tests for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and that systematically indicate the total number of samples tested, a total of 4,794,587 clinical samples have been tested, while the health department EODY units and balances performing Ag rapid tests tested 3,787,668 samples.

As of May 10, 2021, 4,485,813 self-tests were electronically registered, 99,162 people came for re-examination.

At the same time, on May 10, 2021, 128 sampling operations were carried out by EODY Mobile Health Teams (KOMYs), in which 23,563 Rapid Ag tests were carried out and 505 positive (2.14%) were found.

Of the 3,197 new cases of the virus in the country, 14 were imported and discovered after checks upon entry to Greece.

Of the new cases, 1,356 were detected in Attica and 343 in Thessaloniki.

Operation “Blue Freedom” vaccination on the islands

Previously plan for Operation Blue Freedom, aimed at fully vaccinating the islands, was presented at a large-scale meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence today.

Blue Freedom is aiming to vaccinate all residents 18 and older on 19 islands with Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, with 32 completed and 36 more to be completed by the end of May.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still moving around the planet, having infected 160,043,849 people on May 11, 2021, with an increase of +796,001 per day. The death toll was 3,324,138 (+10,587), 106,645 in critical condition, and the number of those who recovered increased to 137 759 085 (+488 201).
