On June 24, Armenia, Greece and Cyprus signed a memorandum on trilateral cooperation on diaspora issues, the office of the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs reports.
The memorandum was signed today in Athens by the RA Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Katsaniotis and Cypriot Presidential Commissioner for Foreign and Humanitarian Affairs Fotiou Fotis. “The memorandum establishes the areas of cooperation between the three countries on diaspora issues, in particular, the exchange of experience, intercommunal cooperation, joint educational and cultural events, youth initiatives, and so on,” the message says.
According to the press service of the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, the signing ceremony was preceded by a face-to-face conversation and a meeting of delegations in the 2+1 format. Armenian Ambassador to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan also attended all the meetings and the signing ceremony.
During the press conference that followed the signing, Zareh Sinanyan stressed the importance of the historical friendship and common values of the three countries. “I should note that in different countries our diaspora communities are already cooperating with each other, and our duty is to encourage them to cooperate more actively and, if possible, support each other, best experience, exchange of innovations and, finally, to support our common values and interests,” said the Chief Commissioner.
Within the framework of the working visit, Zareh Sinanyan also met with the Armenian community of Greece. He presented the activities of the Ombudsman’s office, programs and policies for working with the Diaspora. Then the following issues were raised: the process of repatriation, integration programs, the creation of the first of its kind Center for Repatriation and Integration, investment policy.
During the meeting, answering the questions of those present, Zareh Sinanyan also touched upon domestic policy, external and internal challenges, and the development of the regions of Armenia.
